As sad as it makes me to say it, I am selling Alvin. I will be moving soon because I am in the Navy and that is what we do and it will be to hard to take him with me. I am asking $3500 OBO and have him up on craigslist in Hampton, VA and on ebay.

You can't do a self move and drive it there? or tow it behind the u-haul?
I would think it wouldn't be to expensive to pay the car carriers to ship it VA. to CT. isn't really that far.

Sucks that all the services don't treat PCS's equally. I've seen the Air Force and Marines here arrive from the states with a vehicle and thats halfway around the globe I would think you could get reimmbursed for the couple hundred miles from Va. to Ct.

its not easy to find a good beetle that You know isn't going to break down...

I don't know how far You would be driving but I'd drive My beetle anywhere to make sure I still have it...

Don't they know that Navy people still drive cars...

It must have been hard to make that decision to sell..

cheers

Are you sure the Navy will not pay for the move? I was in the Navy and one of my buddies had his car shipped from USA to Guam then to London England and the Navy paid for it all.

That must be the deal then as I asked my cousin about it,he was in the Navy from 76 through to 99. They shipped his crappy little Le Car back from Scotland to California and paid for the whole thing. The car wasn't even worth a quarter of what that cost. He said he did have to pay for the shipping from there to AK though, he was discharged in Calif,. Sorry to hear this though buddy as I know it's hard to get rid of an old VW,they kind of grow on ya like and old Friend. Hope you can figure a way to move it with you.
