I just purchased a 74 Super, I ordered a tow bar to use when I go pick it up and it didn't come with the bolts to mount it to the frame. Does anyone know what size (length) bolts are needed? I believe it is an EMPI unit as that is on the tag that's on it. Any other issues I should be aware of towing it? Front end was rebuilt a couple of years ago so I'm doubting I'll have a shimmy issue.

Thanks,

Rob

It looks like they may be held on with those clips...

Rob, one thing to keep in mind is the height of the tow vehicle. I picked up my 74 with my Tundra 4X4. It sits at a regular truck height and I had to remove the bumper on the bug to keep from beating it up too bad. That was with a drop hitch installed. At first it looked as if it would be alright, but the littlest bump would have slammed the bottom of the bumper pretty bad.

The bolts on my bar are about 3 in. or so. I use washers to take up slack between the top flat bar and the bottom bar. Hope this helps.

It's a straight Bolt On, the directions just say to use 3/8" Class 5 bolts, they don't say anything about length.
I had picked up some 1.5" bolts, I'll grab some longer ones to be sure. I have a 6" drop hitch on my Ranger but I'll be sure to check the bumper clearance to be safe, Might just go ahead and pull it off.

Thanks,

Rob

With access to a welder, you could figure out how to fabricate a toungue extender, to the point where it wouldn't matter. It would preferably articulate in such a way to allow the trailer to swing clear of even the tailights.

68autobug, The clip on model is for standards not supers. Wish it was that easy! Have to bolt on a bracket under the front end and then the towbar attaches to it with a couple of pins when you want to use it.
