most of it, with the exception of the painting and welding i can do myself. i need new pans and a new floor for the area behind the back seat. i have POR-15 and am ready to clean and paint the front end. hopefully all of my front end rebuild pieces will arrive today so i can get to work on that.

most of my front end stuff arrived yesterday. i have everything with the exception of the driver's side spindle. not sure, but i think that might be an important part.  i have never rebuilt a front end before, so this should be fun. i have books and plenty of time, so i am going to try to tackle it myself. any gotcha's i should look out for?

Today I finished taking off all of the pieces of the front end. Unfortunately I am going to have to take my axle beam to the bug shop. I don't have the right tools to press out the old ball joints and press the new ones in. I am on my way to the hardware store to buy wire discs for the grinder so I can take everything down to bare metal. Hopefully I'll have some pictures soon showing before and after shots.

Yesterday I installed both front discs and new spindles. A little more surgery involved than when I put discs on my Super, but I am liking the front of a Standard the more I work with it. The driver's side spindle rubs on the inside disc pad. I hope that is something that will self adjust when I drive and not a sign that something is wrong. I have PLENTY of time to research since I have no interior, floorpans, or engine.

I just finished grinding off all of the paint and undercoating tar on the front of the car. Hands down, that is the messiest job I have ever done. The spinning disk heats the tar up making it gummy before it strips it off. On top of that, the hot, gummy tar gets all over everything; in my hair, completely coating my arms, in my ears, all in the ear buds of my iPod, all over the garage, etc. Right now the front of the car is almost shiny enough to be a mirror. Too bad I had to dull it with the Por-15 metal prep. Tomorrow I am going to paint it black. I also stripped down the areas around all of the windows and the outsides of the doors. I'll try to post more pictures tomorrow.
