Yes, Felted is not widely used down under....

really never heard it before....

I'm presuming the engine is either really worked?? or really standard..??

have a good weekend..

summer has finally arrived... 32C 82F today... not complaining 20C was OK...

better than 40+C over the next two - three months...

The horsepower rating of a Beetle is different in many Countries...

I have many manuals and the Horsepower can be SAE - DIN - and whatever is used in the USA.

The torque ratings can also be very different..

62HP is the "normal" rating for a 1600 DP Beetle with Solex Carburetor.{UK}

1600 - 1970 = 57HP [maybe single port]

AE & AH 1600 - 1971> = 60HP

AK 1973> models = 46HP

AJ AF AS 1975> models = 48HP

from Haynes manual

Where did all those extra HP go with the 1973> models ???

I always look to the UK manuals to see how much horsepower I have, as their ratings are always the highest..

So My Single port 1600 engine should have about 57HP.... Great..

Mine pushes 60 Hp, I've converted from Kw to Hp. With feltering I mean: Lightened flywheel, porting and flowing the Cylinder Heads: increasing valve sizes etc.

OK Dejond on the engine modifications.

What distributor, and carburetor/s are you using?

instead of engine modifications, I painted My engine...

I didn't get any more horsepower though....

and I have the top of My engine lid open to catch the air coming over

the roof, and keep My engine bay cool... well cooler....

Hi beetle boys

It seems the SA built beetles had a little more oomph, the camshaft has a lumpy idle (possible more wilder than standard)... THEREFORE THE EXTRA kW AND NM. Mine is the year of the first SA built ones.

I have a 34 pict 3 solex. Standard exhaust ... this will be a 4-1 quiet pack soon (tnt) ... going to re jet the carb to handle the xhaust. possibly a performance filter that will fit into the standard airbox.

How much can I rev it until I start gtting cranck flex?

I am about to buy an EMPI quick shifter kit ... apparently it makes the shift distance smaller ... any ideas?

I want to build a nice BIG cc engine in SA ... can you guys tell me how to get parts etc?
