Hi rocky glad you found someone to fix the damage. I'm thinking a 40 mph rear end collision would have done alot more damage than you describe...guess you are lucky afterall..and no-one was hurt! There should be no problem with a '74 to '73 drivetrain swap.

Hi Everyone~
I finally found someone who has the tools and patience to replace my engine and trans after my 73 Sb vert was rear-ended (at a full 40 mph). I was hit dead center in the bumper and it doesn't look like much actual body damage was done. After my good friend puts the mechanical stuff back together what should I look for in structural damage that might be hidden?? I've had this one for over 10 years and refuse to part with it. It's gonna be a while b 4 he gets it done, but the price was right and the engine and trans is a donor from a 74, any other problems I should look for?
This is my fourth bug so I have learned a little bit.
Thanks
Rocky

So it actually wrecked Your engine & transmission??
Did it push Your rear transmission forward much??
or just break the case....??
Would It be easier to make a Baja out of it..??

Thanks, Dan and Lee
There is a v in my bumper dead center. It could not be more square on. Before the hook got there (flat bed really) to tow me home the poor thing was bleeding pretty bad from all over and after (darn, this still hurts) we got it back into our garage it bled out. I don't know how much damage yet to the rest of the parts , we just replaced the entire front end mechanics, but I have to trust the friends I have, cos, after all I'm still a mere girl to them ( how much could I know?)

It is sad to have Your Beetle damaged...

I'd be concerned with any damage where the tranny and suspension mounts to the body. In case from the impact the tranny or trailing arms mount. Somtimes they can rip through the sheet metal, or just distort the metal, and its hard to straighten out. Sorry to hear about your SB.
