So, January 2004 I sold my Porsche 928.  I wanted a Ghia REALLY bad.  The again, I had wanted the 928 REALLY bad but realized I was out of my league $$ wise.  ($300+ for plug wires alone, no end caps!)  A few weeks and several ads later, and I found her.  In the early 80s she was totally restored.  In 95, her owner's father-in-law told him if he got rid of her that he would buy them a new car (FIL hated her).  So, the owner....hid her at a friend's place 2 hours away and got the new car.  2004 came along and he realized he couldn't hide her any more and put her up for sale.

The price was far lower than she was worth, and the guy could see I REALLY wanted her.  And so, he thought it best to let her go to someone who would love her and do the best they could to get her back on the road again.

After getting her, Gina, home, I gave her a bath and started tearing her apart:

It wasn't long until I found some uglies:

After finding the uglies, I thought it best to strip her down to bare metal and kill off all the rust I could find.  Underneath that paint, I also found lots of filler.

Once she was stipped down, I rolled on a couple coats of Masterseries to seal the metal and any rust I had missed.

So, that is how she has been sitting since about October of last year.  Well, ok, she was actually sitting outside under a cover most of the time while I focused on my daily driver 72 Super, Susie.  Gina will have to sit a little longer yet while I get my soon-to-be daily driver Edel, 72 Super vert autostick, ready to go.  And then I get to start learning filler work myself.  LOL.

Cobey, I would love to have a ghia vert the problem where I am located most people don't even know what a ghia is and thoise who do want three prices for one ex. one in the condition of yours originally could cost as much as 4 grand. that may be the going price for such a prize if so I will just keep admiring those that other people have. good luck with your project cant wait to see the finished product.

Thanks!  You really have to be on the hunt.  Like you most of what I saw was - $2k for the shell only, and probably a salvage title.  A running, driving one in total crap shape was easily $3-4k.  With a bit of persistance, I can say I "stole" this one at less that a third of the going rate.  Fast fingers and self refreshing ad searches.

Luckily, I raided his webserver and cought mose of those pictures before you guys did, but still... he didn't show you the knarliest one, right inside the front right of the trunk... Nasty cobbled together looking mess. But, It has made vast improvement since I saw it. Cobey, you'll probably have to bondo up the dimples in the front, because I don't think you are going to have any luck bending those out. Hit me up on aim sometime man.

If you look at the chassis number, the first three digits tell you alot about the car. The first tell you the type of the car. The something 4 is the most common I think. Then, look at the last number. That is the year from 65-74. For instance, 5 is 65, 4 is 74. I know that much.

Ah, you mean this:

This is what happens to a paint brush when you use it to spread out aircraft paint remover.  Word to the wise - don't buy an expensive brush and don't get this stuff on you.  LOL
