Ok......Ok, so I made have had it coming. Call it fate or just plain bad luck. My latest contribution to the "Idle Chatter" section is titled, "Why a VW Bug is Better Than A Wife." So my wife, Bless her soul, rear ended someone today in "The Blues." Looks like damage to the hood, bumper, fender and apron. So I'm off to the insurance adjuster and body shop tomorrow. Such is life...I gave my wife a big hug and kiss. Just glad she is OK.

First of all Loren, I'm glad your wife is ok too. That's the most important thing.
Second, I think I'd call it fate. I learned along time ago not to joke about the a wife.  Gotta admit though I laughed all the way through idle chatter. Just don't tell my wife!
Keep us posted on how you come out.

Haven't got The Blues back from the body shop.  The Insurance adjuster that came out didn't have a clue on cost of parts and nothing was in his computer data base to reference.  Luckily I had a Mid American Motorworks VW catalog.  I gave him the cost of a Trunk lid, fender, bumper and the piece on the front end between the bumpers plus beading etc.  He cut us a check for $1200.  Another guy went out to the body shop and then they sent us another check for over $700.  We're responsible for $240 on our detuctible.  The body shop guy is trying to work an unrelated fix into the mix without adding more cost.  The piece where the tailpipes come out has some paint cracking.  Hopefully he can.

Still haven't got 'er back.  It's been over 3 weeks.   The body shop guy said they're painting it this coming Monday.  He wasn't able to fix the other spot and tag it on to the Insurance payment part as the Insurance Adjuster has been out there too often checking on the progress.

I just hope its as good as new Loren..

Do You have special insurance as for a vintage/classic car?
or just general car insurance?

I have mine insured as a classic car

there are restrictions though...
Not a daily driver
8000kms max a year

but I get the car back if its written off..

Insured for $10,000..

normal insurance would be probably $3500 if i'm lucky
as the retail price of a 30 year old car isn't high

cheers

The insurance is just standard car insurance thru Farmers we pay $367.80 a year.  And that covers towing and all glass.  We have $240 detuctible.
