Well,
My engine and gearbox is out...
and the replacement gearbox is ready to be installed..
then I'm taking the heads off and pushrod tubes and seals to be renewed,,
I fitted type 3 cool tin to My engine when i had it overhauled 10 years ago..
I've now decided to replace the cool tin with the standard type 1 engine deflector plates that fit under the cylinders.

Hopefully, once all this is done....
I won't have to take the engine out again....  ever...

cheers

Hi

Well, I'm slowly getting things together..
engine is assembled..
tinware rubbed down ready to paint again...
red high temperature paint ready..
black high temperature paint ready...

awaiting gaskets and oil cooler seals...

can't wait to drive My Beetle again...

weather is getting cooler..
especially at night..
good VW Beetle driving weather...
I've given under My fenders another few coats of fishoil
after painting over the blue paint with metallic silver...

You won't believe this...

engine is in and running...  but

I have a leak between the cylinder and head on the RHS

and very slight engine oil leak under the torque converter [bell housing]

so, all that good work to no avail...

it has to come back out..

Hope you get to get out and just plain have fun with your bug! You sure do deserve a bit of ride time with all the wrench time into it.
Sure does look great!!

I did test drive My beetle yesterday and the day before..

without the rear valance and the rear bumper
as they hadn't been installed..

I have checked everything 5 times...

no leaks at all...  [fingers crossed]

engine purring...

the rear valance has been added
rear bumper and rubber seal to be installed  tomorrow..

I have also added a pair of chromed [muffled] tapered tail pipes
to quiten the noise , as My wife wouldn't drive it..

excuse - too noisy...

but I also have a pair of chromed [not muffled] tail pipes
when i need to hear the VW noise...

Way to go Lee!!
Sounds like you are finally getting to the "good part". Glad to hear that the oil leak issue has been resolved. Sure does look sharp you have obviously put a lot of heart and soul into your ride. Now you get to ride again, enjoy the good weather down there.

Hi
Good weather down here is rain... lol..
as We are always short of water
and I don't mind driving My beetle in the rain
even with the top of My engine lid open..

its really too hot here in the summer months [normally]
although We didn't really have a summer this year..
apart from a few days in February-March..

but as my car was off the road, I couldn't enjoy
driving on a summers day with the windows down..lol

Now its getting cooler, its really great beetle weather
heater on..  wipers on..

I'm going to love it..

cheers
